Not Medical Advice
The content on this site — including articles, supplement reviews, treatment summaries, and research summaries — is intended to inform, not to diagnose or prescribe. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional (a physician, dentist, or oral medicine specialist) before starting any new treatment, supplement, or dietary change, particularly if you have an underlying medical condition.
Evidence Ratings
This site uses evidence level ratings (Strong, Moderate, Weak, Debunked, Neutral) to describe the quality and consistency of published research. These ratings reflect an editorial assessment of the current literature and are not a clinical endorsement. New research may supersede what is described here; check publication dates and consult primary sources for decisions with significant health implications.
When to Seek Professional Care
Seek prompt medical evaluation if you experience any of the following:
- An oral lesion that does not begin healing within 3 weeks
- A painless white or red lesion in the mouth
- Lesions that grow rapidly or spread
- Significant systemic symptoms (fever, weight loss, fatigue, lymphadenopathy) accompanying oral ulcers
- Difficulty swallowing or breathing related to oral lesions
- Adult-onset recurrent ulcers with no prior history
Canker sores are consistently painful and self-limited (healing within 2 weeks for minor ulcers). Lesions that behave differently warrant clinical evaluation to rule out other conditions.
